The Old Mill - Taunton
Come and enjoy a perfect location for a B and B with a difference and enjoy the warm welcome and hospitality of The Old Mill. Situated on the banks of the River Tone on the outskirts of the village of Bishops Hull, just 2 miles from Taunton, the County town of Somerset.
Ownership of the Mill dates back to 1503 and the present family has lived and worked here since 1870, although the wheels have not turned since c.1920, much of the machinery has remained in place.
The Mill building has been lovingly restored and converted to provide luxurious Bed and Breakfast accommodation near Taunton, where guests can relax and unwind, amidst the wheels and cogs of a bygone age.
The feeling of peace and tranquillity is enhanced by the sound of the river flowing by, where you can watch the endless patience of the Heron, waiting for his catch.
We have two double bedrooms. The Mill Room with its beamed ceiling, stable door and restful decor overlooks the Mill Pond, giving rooms an air of spaciousness. It also has a luxury en-suite bathroom with shower.
Approached by two steps, the second bedroom is the charming Cottage Room with a part sloping ceiling and views of the Mill Pond beneath the 200 year old Chestnut tree. From the window towards the west are the views up river and across fields. Adjoining the bedroom is a fully fitted luxury private bathroom with shower.
Both bedrooms are centrally heated with generous tea trays, colour television, radio alarm clocks, hairdryers and thoughtful extras, book a room now.
The ground floor of the Mill is now the guest´s lounge - the focal point of which is the Pit Wheel and the Great Spur Wheel with the original heavy supporting timber beams and posts.
To start your day, breakfast is served on the first floor amidst the remaining Mill stone and gearing, where you can sample the delights from our extensive menu, such as - Salmon Scramble or Egg and Bacon Muffin or for the more hearty appetite, The Cornmillers Breakfast.
As you enjoy your breakfast you may catch a glimpse of sapphire from the window as the Kingfisher darts across the Mill Pond.
After breakfast you may sit in our large garden bordered on the south side by a wildlife filled flowing river, or see the surrounding area.
Perhaps you may even be lucky enough to see one or more of the family of otters playing in the Mill Pool, ducking and diving as they swim upstream.
The Old Mill is the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. For the walker, there are local public footpaths and for the cyclist we are also close to the National Cycle Network.
The Old Mill is situated centrally for touring between the North Somerset coast including Minehead, Dunster and Porlock, and the South coast area of Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Exmouth, all within 40 minutes drive. As well as Exmoor National Park to the West and the historical sites of Wells and Glastonbury to the East.
There are also numerous Trust Houses and gardens within a 30 mile radius.
Local attractions include the West Somerset Steam Railway, County Cricket Ground, Museums and the internationally famous Hestercombe Gardens. In fact there is something for everyone.
We are situated 5 minutes walk from the village and 10 minutes drive from the main train station. Half a mile away is a park and ride bus service which can take you to the town centre, there are also local taxi services which we would be happy to book for you.
We have ample parking for three cars and can assist with luggage.
