The Masons Arms - Yeovil

Thank you for taking the time to visit us. We have been running the Masons Arms at Lower Odcombe since February 2005 when we rescued the village from a fate worse than death... the loss of their pub!

After a short closure to make the kitchens legal, replace the boiler, fix the wiring... etc etc we reopened on April 1st with so much support from the village that we ran out of beer! Their drinking and eating capacity has been unabated ever since and the pub has established itself as the heart of the village with New Years Eve parties, Village Fetes and Dog Shows all proving to be a great success. More events are now planned for forthcoming years!

We have two ales regularly available namely Odcombe No.1 at 4% abv, and Odcombe Spring at 4.1% abv, and 2 seasonal ales, Winters Tail and Half Jack.

My partner and I had been running pubs together for ten years as managers for various breweries before we found The Masons Arms. It is a picture postcard pub in a very pretty ham stone village in an area full of tourist attractions and places of natural beauty such as Ham Hill (where the stone comes from). We instantly fell in love with the pub and knew we had to buy it. We were then overwhelmed by the welcome we received from the villagers who have helped us in so many ways since our arrival; from John, our unconventional vicar, who broadcast details of the opening night from the pulpit to Sheila, our local artist, who has allowed us to use her beautiful paintings of the pub; not to mention help with websites, posters, all matters chicken-related, and provision of local honey, fish and vegetables all from talented and generous customers/villagers.

The popularity of our pub stems in part due to the talents of my partner, Drew, who leads the kitchen team. We have always used fresh local produce for our menus and whilst it is a formula that has grown fashionable in recent years it has always been successful for us. He is also the brewer, producing fabulous ales that are not available anywhere but across our bar. My job is everything else including writing text for websites and of course making time to walk my quartet of dogs and cause chaos in our narrow country lanes!

When you visit us I am sure you will experience the villagers welcoming and generous spirit whilst you enjoy a pint or two in the bar or stroll around the village itself. We will always make you welcome, but the soul of a pub comes from those who patronise it not just those who pull your pint! Our dogs will always give you a bouncy welcome when they are liberated from their paddock and of course you can bring your own to enjoy walking in our fabulous countryside.

We now have 6 rooms, situated next to the garden and away from the road, not that there is much traffic in Odcombe! Our rooms have recently been refurbished to luxury standard:

- 1 single with ensuite
- 2 doubles with en suite bath/shower
- 1 double with walk in shower (suitable for people with mild disabilities)
- 1 twin with bath/shower
- 1 family room with bath/shower (sleeps 1 or 2 children on a double sofa bed)

We serve a sumptuous breakfast of cereals, patisseries, full English using local produce and freshly laid eggs (possibly by our own chickens) accompanied by juice, tea and coffee. It's a meal sure to set you up for your day!
