Paignton is traditionally known as a family holiday resort. Why? Simply because of its beaches and friendly atmosphere. Like all of Torbay, Paignton was frequented by Victorians and some of the architecture still remains. Parts of Paignton can be found in the Domesday book and has been a small fishing port in years gone by. The sea once lapped at where the railway crossing now is, until reclaimed.

Paignton beaches are without doubt the best in the bay. All the pre-requisites are there: Gently sloping, very sandy, protected from prevailing winds, supported by a good infrastructure of restaurants, bars, ice cream kiosks, beach shops and marine activities.

Visitors come to Paignton to be beside the sea, so why not take full advantage of it. Paddle boats, canoes and wet suits can be hired from the beaches (Goodrington), motor boats and cruise boats from Paignton harbour.
